1/2 inch thin Architectural Bamboo Plywood for wood working. available in 4'x8' and 4'x10' sheets. horizontal grain and vertical grain in 3ply with vertical core. color options: natural and carbonized. natural color is more white, yellow and blond. carbonized is also called caramel, caramelized, amber, or coffee.
Carbonized is a rich deep color, achieved by long time of kiln drying at high temperature, which removes sugar, starch and kills insects and the eggs of insects from bamboo. Carbonized ooks like amber, coffee or espresso.
Natural color is achieved by boiling fresh bamboo strips with H2O2 in hot water, a process to bleach and remove sugar, starch etc. from the bamboo. Unlike caramel, which is a warm tone, natural color is more white, and has a cool feeling.
Horizontal grain shows the big knots of bamboo, just like the knuckles on our hand, horizontal bamboo is made by using wider bamboo strips laminated together to form a board, all the bamboo strips used are in the width of 21mm to 21,6mm. whereas vertical grain shows narrower bamboo strips, and width of strips ranging from 5mm to 6.8mm.
Unlike horizontal grain, vertical grain doesn’t show the wide knots of bamboo, but looks like narrow bamboo strips laminated together to form a big panel. Each strip roughly 5mm to 6.5mm wide, whereas horizontal grain is made by using 21mm to 21.6mm wide bamboo strips edge glued to form a big panel. Vertical grain is also called side pressed or narrow grain.
